Library Events & Activities

I like to plan a variety of activities to encourage my students to read. Take a look at the events and activities for this school year:

Sept. 17, 2010: Constitution Day Guest Reader- An attorney from the Houston Bar Association stopped by to read Shhh, We're Writing the Constitution.
 Dec. 3, 2010: Marionette Puppet Show  performed by Carranza Puppets for our Accelerated Reader Celebration.


Dec. 13- 17th: Fall Book Fair
Jan. 2011: Started training 4th grade students for The Battle of the Books a district wide reading competition for elementary and intermediate students. My BOB students meet weekly in the library to read, discuss, and blog about their books.

Jan. 10th- Feb. 23rd: Six Flags Read to Succeed Program K-4.
Feb. 7th- March 11th: Read Around the Library Passports 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students. Students were asked to read from each section of the library and record their readings in their passports. After each passport entry students stopped by the library to get their passport stamp. Once their passports were filled with stamps they received a fun prize.
March 3rd & 4th: Movie and  Popcorn Party for AR students by grade levels.
April 21st: Law Day Guest Reader: A Judge representing the Houston Bar Association read Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed  to 2nd and 3rd grade students.
May 4th: School Battle of the Books competition for 4th graders.
May 9th- 16th: Spring Book Fair.
May 13th: Field Trip to the Houston Children's Museum for top 2 AR students in each 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade class.
May 20th: Battle of the Books Party.
May 26th: Ronald McDonald Show and Pajama Day for kindergarten and first grade AR readers. Here's our Ronald McDonald pictures from last year.
